TRANSCRIPCIÓN: Ayer tuvo lugar en San Roque en el Teatro Juan Luis Galiardo una de esas veladas que se recuerdan luego por mucho tiempo. Aunque era el segundo día de los tres previstos en que se va a proyectar el documental ‘La Roca’ de Raúl Santos, ayer fue, para entendernos, el pase de gala. El Alcalde de San Roque, el Ministro Principal de Gibraltar, la Alcaldesa de La Línea, el Subdelegado de la Junta y varios ex del relumbrón acompañaron al director y a los cientos de campogibraltareños que abarrotaron el teatro hasta la bandera.
Para no irnos mucho por las ramas, digamos de entrada que el documental es emocionante, muy emocionante, pero eso no le quita ni un ápice de calidad. Cinematográficamente es una magnífica producción a base de entrevistas a linenses y gibraltareños que vivieron en primera persona esa relación que se tejió alrededor de la Verja desde los años 30 hasta el cierre y posterior apertura en 1982. Pero además de los testimonios, el documental recupera imágenes reales filmadas hace muchas decenas de años a ambos lados, con lo que se convierte en sí mismo en un documento de gran valor. Hubo muchos aplausos y mucha emoción. Se trata de una hora y media de historia de la más cercana, de la más íntima en ocasiones y de la más contradictoria también. De ésas que todos y todas deberíamos ver y que para que la memoria sea algo más que un recuerdo personal y pase a ser propiedad de una comunidad, deberíamos procurar que vieran nuestros hijos. Es una lección además de convivencia y tolerancia, precisamente porque narra de forma descarnada el intento de suprimir mediante una verja eso que se había forjado durante muchos años, que no era tan poco la mejor de las realidades porque la desigualdad era manifiesta y sangrante. Pero si algo se puede deducir de este documental es que los pueblos no deben pagar los errores de sus gobernantes. No sirve para nada. O sí, para que con el tiempo esos que deciden a costa del sufrimiento ajeno queden en ridículo.
La visita, la primera a la comarca desde su toma de posesión, del Ministro Principal de Gibraltar, nieto de española, para ver precisamente esta cinta, fue toda una manifestación de buena vecindad. Que cunda el ejemplo.
TRANSCRIPT: A memorable soirée took place last night at the Teatro Juan Luis Galiardo in San Roque. Although it was the second of three days of screenings for ‘La Roca’ – a documentary film by Raúl Santos, yesterday was so to speak, the gala evening. The Mayor of San Roque, the Chief Minister of Gibraltar, the Mayoress of La Linea, the Subdelegate of the Regional Government of Andalusia and some other figures accompanied the director and hundreds of citizens that packed the theatre until it sold out.
Long story short, let’s say for starters that the documentary is thrilling, very thrilling, but that doesn’t play down its quality. Cinematographically speaking, it is a magnificent production based on interviews to Linenses and Gibraltarians who lived first hand a relationship that was woven around the frontier from the 30s to the closing and later reopening in 1982. Besides these testimonies, the documentary also rescues real footage that was filmed on both sides tens of years ago, which makes it a document of great value. The applause was long and emotional. The film is an hour-and-a-half-long story told in a very personal and intimate way, and also full of contradictions. It is one of those films that we should all see and, in order to avoid memory to be just a personal recollection of souvenirs and let it be the heritage of a community, we should try that our children watch it. It is a lesson of good coexistence and tolerance, even more because it narrates in a raw manner the attempt to eliminate with a Gate the relations that had been forged for years. It must be told though, that it wasn’t the best of realities, since the inequalities were blatant and glaring. But if there is anything we can learn from this documentary is that the people should not pay for the mistakes of their rulers. It doen’t serve any purpose. Or it does, just for the sake to put to shame those people who make decisions regardless the suffering of others.
The first visit to Spain of the newly elected Chief Minister of Gibraltar – he himself grandson of a Spaniard, to watch the film, was a clear manifestation of good coexistance. Hope this good deed spreads.

La obra, vista y oida fuera de nuestra comarca hará justicia de una vez por todas, porque dejará sin voz a aquell@s que hablan por hablar y transmiten en ondas y papel, sin saber, ni haber visto la realidad de todo lo acontecido a lo largo de la historia y a aquell@s políticos patriótico-paranoideos que anteponen un trozo de trapo ondulante con colorines por los que se mata, a la verdad y a los intereses de las personas y sus sentimientos, aqiuellos quienes hasta sin darse cuenta, caen en ridículo trasl saberse la verdad y haberse hecho dañó a si mismo.
